On the Snow in Val Chiavenna! Discover the itinerary with us for snowshoeing to Mottaccio from Madesimo.
Madesimo, the starting point, is a well-known winter tourist destination in Valchiavenna, a lateral valley of Valtellina. The snowshoeing excursion to Mottaccio allows you to reach this panoramic location and enjoy magnificent views of the village of Madesimo and the Central Alps. Thanks to the moderate elevation gain and the numerous markers along the route, this snowshoeing trail is ideal for beginners and families.

The route begins from the village of Madesimo, a famous winter tourist destination in Valchiavenna. It can be easily reached by car by taking the Strada dello Spluga (Splügen Pass Road) to the village itself. Once here, after parking the car, we take the path that runs alongside the Scalcoggia stream, ascending along its course. When we reach Residence la Gran Baita, following the numerous signs and green markers, we cross the stream on a wooden bridge and enter the fir forest.
We continue through the woods, following the uphill path that takes us to Alpe Andossi. From here, the forest gives way to a sunny plateau, which we traverse on a gently sloping path. In a short time, we reach the Mottaccio location, the highest point of our excursion.
After a well-deserved break, during which we can enjoy the wide panorama of Madesimo and the Central Alps, we now continue downhill towards the return route. Through easy switchbacks, we follow the path and soon arrive back in Madesimo, completing the loop and our excursion.

The excursion doesn’t present any particular difficulties and is suitable for everyone, including families or beginners with limited training.
