On the Snow in Valchiavenna! Discover the itinerary with us for snowshoeing to Alpe Lendine.
Alpe Lendine is a picturesque alpine village with characteristic stone huts, located in Val del Drogo, a side valley of Valchiavenna. Due to its unique exposure and topography, this location often receives abundant snowfall, transforming it into landscapes reminiscent of the Great North. Snowshoeing to Alpe Lendine is an excellent way to reach and admire this place in winter.
The itinerary starts from Olmo, a hamlet of San Giacomo Filippo. We reach it by taking the road to Spluga from Chiavenna, and then following the signs to our destination. We park near the village church.
We follow the itinerary indicated by signs and markers, which immediately ascends steep slopes to the charming village of Zecca, avoiding the deviations to Alpe Laguzzolo After passing through the village, we continue along the trail that goes up Val del Drogo, immersed in a beautiful larch forest, with never too steep slopes.
Upon reaching a small bridge, we cross the stream and switch to the other side of the valley. From here, the slopes become steeper again, and the forest gradually thins out. We cross a second bridge, and soon the larch forest opens up to wider views and our destination, Alpe Lendine. Characteristic stone buildings with roofs covered by several meters of snow above, and in the background, the imposing Monte Mater stands out.
The return journey follows the same route as the way there We recommend the loop that passes through Alpe Laguzzolo only for more experienced snowshoers, as it’s less marked and groomed.
The excursion involves a decent elevation gain and requires a minimum level of fitness. The snow conditions in this valley are generally considered safe from avalanches, but it’s best to avoid venturing beyond the village of Alpe Lendine.
