Border Lookout! Join us to discover the itinerary for climbing Pizzo Tre Signori.

The Pizzo Tre Signori owes its name to its location, an ancient border between the Republic of Venice, the Grand Duchy of Milan, and the Swiss Grisons, which today correspond to the provinces of Bergamo, Lecco, and Sondrio. From its 2554 meters, there is an exceptional view of all the Alps and Prealps of the Orobie and the Rhaetian Mountains.

The itinerary starts from Ornica, in the Upper Brembana Valley, where we leave the car. From here, we follow the path indicated by the CAI 106 marker, which we will not leave until we reach the summit. The route initially passes through woods, along a stream. The forest soon gives way to pastures, and the slope becomes steeper. We then reach the Agriturismo Ferdy alpine hut, the only refreshment point we will encounter along the way.

Continuing along the trail, we climb along the Val d’Inferno to reach the Bocca d’Inferno pass. This area was a mining zone in the past, for the extraction of iron and forges for its processing, and popular imagination gave the name to this area, which still carries it today. Particularly suggestive, at the entrance of this pass, you can observe the Sphinx, a rock formation whose profile resembles that of the ancient Egyptian monument.

From here, the environment becomes more rugged, typical of the high mountains. We follow the valley formed by debris, following the path, always well marked by rock cairns and markers. Finally, we approach the last stretch of the wide North ridge of the Pizzo Tre Signori, where the last passage on a rocky slab is further facilitated by the presence of a fixed rope.

In short, we are at the summit, from which we can enjoy the fantastic panorama.

The return takes place along the same itinerary as the ascent.

This hike requires good training for the considerable elevation gain, but there are no particular technical difficulties.
