The peat bogs of Sebino lake are a protected area by the Lombardy region, located to the south of Iseo lake. It is characterized by reed beds and still water ponds. Its current formation is a result of human activity; until the period after World War I, this area was used for extracting peat, a material used for energy production as a substitute for coal.

There are two main loop paths, one to the north and the other to the south. Both share a central stretch where you can explore the various water ponds directly using suspended wooden walkways.

Our suggestion is to start from the visitor center in Iseo (BS) and explore the Northern trail. This path runs alongside the ponds, immersed in reed beds and woods, before crossing them on charming wooden walkways that lead us into the heart of the peat bogs. In a short time, you can also reach the birdwatching tower.

The nature reserve is indeed a safe haven for many animal species, and it’s not difficult to spot herons, teals, swans, and coots.

The excursion doesn’t present any particular difficulties and is suitable for all, both adults and children.

Access has a symbolic cost of 1 Euro, and the proceeds are used for the maintenance of the trails and wooden walkways.
