Overlooking Lake Garda! Discover the itinerary with us for the excursion along the Ponale Trail..
The Ponale Trail is an ancient road carved into the rock that connected Garda lake to Ledro lake After being closed for 20 years, it has been rehabilitated and transformed into a cycle and pedestrian path of great charm, offering magnificent views overlooking Lake Garda.
We leave the car in the center of the town of Riva del Garda and head west, following the coast of the right bank of the lake. Just outside the town, we follow the signs for D 01, Valle di Ledro. Soon, we leave the asphalt for the dirt road and continue with a slight uphill ascent Magnificent panoramas open up, with breathtaking views of Garda lake on one side and imposing rock walls on the other. The road is at times built through tunnels, which make the route even more captivating.
After about 2 km, the road veers to the right towards Val di Ledro, and the pedestrian path separates from the cycling path. Continuing on, we finally reach the village of Prè di Ledro, located on the shores of Ledro lake, with the famous pile-dwelling museum.
The return is then on the same route as the outbound trip.
The excursion doesn’t present any particular difficulties and is suitable for all, both adults and children accustomed to walking.
The route is exposed to the sun, and it’s recommended to traverse it in spring, autumn, or when the weather isn’t excessively hot.
