TRIP SUMMARY
DIFFICULTY: Moderate to Easy
DISTANCE: about 45 km one way
Type: A/R
DURATION: 3.0h A / 3.0h R
START: Peschiera del Garda (VR)
ARRIVAL: Mantova (MN)
We reach Peschiera del Garda and park the car near Porta Brescia, where the itinerary begins. There’s also a spacious and convenient parking area nearby. Peschiera is a splendid village, surrounded by Garda lake and characterized by a fortress that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Along the cycle path, accompanied by the river, we pedal until we reach Monzambano, where we cross from the right bank to the left bank of the Mincio. This village is characterized by an 11th-century castle that dominates the river valley..
From here, it’s a short ride to Valeggio sul Mincio, famous for the beautiful Sigurtà floral park and the Scaliger Castle. Near the village, you’ll find the charming Borghetto, traversed by the river, offering picturesque views and corners that are postcard-worthy, definitely deserving a visit.
Continuing along, you’ll reach the village of Pozzolo, where the cycle path leaves the river to continue through the countryside and the plains’ canals, ultimately leading to the city of Mantua.
The return is along the same route taken on the way there.
The itinerary takes place mostly on dirt roads and asphalt, is mostly flat, and therefore doesn’t present particular technical or physical difficulties, except for its length, which is 90 km if you wish to cover the entire distance in a day, both for the outbound and return journey.
