The Snowshoe hike to Nicola mountain shelter allows you to reach this refuge located in the heart of the Artavaggio plateau, an ideal location to enjoy the snow on a beautiful winter day in Lombardy. We are in Valsassina, in the province of Lecco, at the foot of the suggestive mount Sodadura, with its unmistakable pyramid shape.

We reach Moggio (LC), where we leave the car. From here, we can take the cable car that will take us to the Artavaggio plateau. For the more fit, it is possible to climb directly from here, but obviously the elevation gain and the duration of the hike increase.

“Once we reach the Artavaggio plateau, from the cable car arrival station, we take the road along the edge of the ski slope, following the obvious signage. The path is groomed by a snowcat and does not present technical difficulties.

“Once we reach the refuge, with its unmistakable pyramid profile, we can enjoy a panorama that ranges from the Resegone, Grigne, Zuccone Campelli and the Monte Sodadura, just behind, whose shape inspired the shape of the refuge. For the most fit and equipped with crampons, from the refuge it is possible to climb up to this summit in about an hour.

The hike does not present particular difficulties and only a minimum of training is required.
