Spectacular view of Monte Isola! Read our description for the itinerary to Pilzone Big Bench.
The giant benches, also known as Big Benches, are a non-profit project by American designer Chris Bangle. They can be found all over Italy with 4 of them located on Iseo lake. In this article, we take a look at the climb up to the one in Pilzone, number 73.
We arrive at Pilzone, a town on the eastern shore of Iseo lake, and park our car in the free cemetery parking lot. From there, we head to the town square, Piazza Basilio Cittadini, where we find directions to the ancient Via Valeriana and our Big Bench. The town roads soon give way to a cobbled path that leads into the forest. We continue on this path, with steep inclines requiring a minimum level of fitness, for about an hour. Our bench is a deep green color and from its seat, we can enjoy a wide panoramic view of the southern part of Iseo lake, Monte Isola and the Sebino Marshes on one side and the Cime della Valle Camonica on the other.
The return trip is on the same path as the ascent.
The path does not have any technical difficulties, but due to its steep incline, it requires a minimum level of fitness.
You can find the interactive map of the route, complete with elevation profile and downloadable GPS track, at this link.
Always carefully plan your trips, choosing the appropriate material and equipment and verifying the itinerary before embarking on it.
