Discover with us the itinerary for the excursion to the Albani Refuge, in Val di Scalve
The Albani Refuge is located at an altitude of 1,939 meters, in the municipality of Colere, in Val di Scalve. Owned by the CAI of Bergamo, the building was inaugurated in 1967, replacing the former Trieste Hut, whose remains are still visible near the now-abandoned old mining site. The refuge is dedicated to Luigi Albani, the first mountaineer to climb the north face of the Presolana.
The refuge is located at the foot of the North Face of the Presolana, queen of the Orobie and one of the most representative peaks of the same. In this article we are going to see the summer itinerary to reach it from Colere, in the Carbonera area.

TRIP SUMMARY
DIFFICULTY: moderate
TOTAL DIFFERENCE IN HEIGHT: about 860 meters
MAX ALTITUDE: 1939 mt
Type: A/R
DURATION: 2.5h one way
DEPARTURE: Colere (BG)
ARRIVAL: Albani Refuge (BG)
CAI TRAIL SIGN: 403
Once we reach the village of Colere, through the Presolana Pass if coming from Val Seriana or the Via Mala if from Darfo Boario Terme and Val Camonica, we leave the car at the ski lift parking lot, in the locality of Carbonera.
From here we follow the obvious signs with the CAI 403 trail sign, along the paved road that climbs, with steep slopes, for about 1 km towards Malga Polzone. When we reach the hut, we follow the sign indicating our destination on the left.

Immersed in the woods, we reach a small wooden bridge on a false level, which crosses the Carbonera stream. From here, the path climbs again. We will be able to ignore or follow the sign with the “variant 403”. It is a steeper and more strenuous route, but also faster. The two tracks will rejoin later before reaching the refuge.
After a short time the forest gives way to one of the ski slopes, which we cross always following path 403. Back in the woods, the path becomes less steep. At a next fork we keep to the left, as the other path leads to the start of the ski slopes.
In a short time, the forest gives way to meadows and pastures first and then to a rocky debris. The Presolana wall is already on display and a final climb takes us to the old fluorite mines, now abandoned. The Albani refuge is now within reach, the last 5 minutes of walking take us quickly to our destination.

From the refuge you can enjoy a fantastic view of the north face of the Presolana. The Albani is the access to the mountaineering routes that run along the peaks of the Presolana, the Porta ferrata and a base for those who undertake the circumnavigation of the Regina, a fascinating two-day trek. From here you can also descend into the wild Valzurio.
The refuge boasts 40 beds and excellent home cooking.
The return takes place along the same route as the outward journey.

The itinerary is technically easy but requires a minimum of training. You can find the interactive map of the route, complete with elevation profile and downloadable GPS track, at this link.
Always carefully plan your trips, choosing the appropriate material and equipment and verifying the itinerary before embarking on it.
