Hike to Monte Ocone

Hike to Monte Ocone

Along Orobian Lecchese ridge

The one described is an easy hike to Monte Ocone, on the DOL, the Orobian Lecchese ridge, which serves as a watershed between the provinces of Bergamo and Lecco. It’s an easy outing, with a low elevation difference that, due to the relatively low altitude along which it develops and the southern exposure, is well suited for the autumn and winter seasons.

The famous Pertus lake at “Forcella Alta”

The starting point of the hike is Forcella Alta, near the famous Pertus lake, where there is ample parking to leave the car. From here, we take the CAI 571 trail, going deeper into the beech forest until we reach the former convent-colony. Continuing, we walk across the “ponte degli spagnoli” and reach the Pertus pass. Upon reaching a fork, we take the CAI 588 trail to the left, which leads us back up to the Monte Ocone summit. Once we reach the summit, we find a cross and Tibetan flags, and the view opens up to the Valle Imagna, the Resegone, the Po plain and the Brianza region.

On the background, Monte Resegone

Now, for the more fit and experienced, we can continue down the trail, which is narrow and a bit slippery, from the summit and then ascend the actual peak of Monte Ocone. The return is on the same route as the outward journey.

This hike does not present any particular difficulties, but it requires a minimum of training and paying attention in the last stretch for the ascent to the summit of Monte Ocone.

Always carefully plan your trips, choosing the appropriate material and equipment and verifying the itinerary before embarking on it.
