Walking through the History in Val Taleggio! Read with us the description of the itinerary for the hike to the Cave of the Partisans.

The Cave of the Partisans is a charming rocky cave in Val Taleggio, lateral valley of Val Brembana, carved by water that forms a stunning waterfall inside. During the spring of 1945, partisans Giulio Bellaviti and Virgilio Arnoldi were killed here by Nazi-fascist forces engaged in a roundup. For this reason, the cave has taken this toponomy ever since.

We reach Pizzino in Val Taleggio and leave the car in the large, free parking lot in the center of the town. From here, we then take Salzana street that we follow until we reach a path (CAI 155 trail sign), following the signs for the Sanctuary of the Assumption of Mary in Salzana.

Just before reaching it, we turn left, downhill, into a wider dirt path. We stay on this path until we reach a picnic area, where we take a path on the left that enters the forest.

In a short time, we reach a bridge that crosses the Salzana stream and immediately after the junction, we take the path on the right that climbs the mountain ridge to reach our destination. Entering the cave, we will be able to admire the spectacular waterfall inside.

The return is made along the same route traveled on the ascent.

The route does not present any difficulties, it only requires a bit of attention in being followed as it is not very well marked. To enter the cave and admire the waterfall, depending on the water level, it may be necessary to cross the stream. It is therefore best to wear sturdy mountain shoes.
