Ferrera or Fermona waterfall

Located in the municipality of Ferrera, in the province of Varese, this waterfall is generated by the Margorabbia stream and has a main drop of about 30 meters. Very scenic and with a large lake at its feet, it is also surrounded by the greenery of the luxuriant forest in which it flows. It can be reached with an easy 30-minute hike on a path. In addition to the main jump, there is also a smaller jump, of about 5 meters, and a more hidden one, which originates from a cave.

2. Ravine of Nessus

The town of Nesso, located along the Como branch of the Lario, is a well-known and much-visited tourist village in Lombardy. In addition to the splendid village perched over the lake, the element that made it famous is its magnificent ravine. Here two streams, the Tuf and the Nosè, converge to generate a spectacular leap. Here the force of the water has carved a deep canyon in the rock, which can be admired both from above and, once you have descended the steps of the town that lead to the lake shore, also from below. In particular, here it will be possible to cross the Ponte della Civera and enjoy a spectacular view.

3. Cenghen waterfall

The Cenghen waterfall is a suggestive water jump that develops inside a crack in the Grigne rock, on the Lecco side of Como Lake. The jump area is shaded and surrounded by vegetation and can be reached with a nice, not too demanding hike, which we talked about in our blog. Acquafraggia waterfalls

The Acquafraggia waterfalls are a spectacular waterfall located in Valchiavenna, in the province of Sondrio, to be exact in Borgonuovo di Piuro. This incredible 170-metre-high double waterfall can already be admired from the street. They are so enchanting that they even enchanted Leonardo da Vinci, who will mention them in his “Codex Atlanticus”. The waterfalls take their name from the Latin “Acqua Fracta”, being divided and therefore “fracte” into multiple jumps. We have described the pleasant excursion that you can take to admire them both from below and from above in one of our blog articles, where you will also find a GPS track and a map that can be downloaded for free.

5. Val Nera waterfall

We now move to the northern end of Lombardy for an excursion to this splendid waterfall located in the municipality of Livigno, in upper Valtellina. During the summer, this town is literally taken by storm, thanks to its beauty and the many people who choose Livigno as a destination for their holidays. The path that reaches it is an easy path of about an hour and a half of walking, and which ends at the foot of this fascinating waterfall immersed in the greenery of the fir forests.

6. Vò waterfall

We now move to the province of Bergamo, in the wild Val di Scalve. Here the Vò torrent flows into the Dezzo, with an impressive jump of 25 metres. The waterfall is immersed in the fresh forests of the valley, and can be reached with an easy path of about an hour and a half round trip. We have described this excursion in detail in an article on our blog, where you will find a free downloadable map and GPS track!

7. Sources of the Enna

In Val Taleggio, on the side of Val Brembana, we walk along a pleasant path with a difference in altitude of about 300 meters and an hour and a half journey one way, which allows us to reach the sources of the Enna torrent, where we will be repaid by the sight of a gorgeous waterfall. At the foot of the waterfall there is a large clearing where you can have a picnic and some pools of water where the more daring and overheated can find refreshment. The entire route is immersed in a splendid beech forest which guarantees shade and coolness even on the hottest days.

8. Serio waterfalls

Before leaving the Bergamo area, we cannot fail to mention the imposing Serio waterfalls, in the municipality of Valbondione. These are only opened on specific dates, as they are regulated upstream by a hydraulic system for hydroelectric power generation. It goes without saying that in these days the path that goes up to the Curò refuge is literally invaded by tourists who flock to admire the opening of this impressive waterfall. A valid alternative to enjoy this show in the front row is to go up to Borgo di Maslana. The little extra effort will be amply rewarded.

9. Trail of the waterfalls, Monticelli Brusati

The path of the waterfalls, in Monticelli Brusati in the province of Brescia, is a path that wedges itself into the valley carved out by the Gaina stream, inside a suggestive gorge. The route does not require equipment but if you choose the variant for experts there will be some metal ladders and chains that facilitate progression in the canyon. During the excursion we will have the opportunity to ford the stream repeatedly and admire numerous waterfalls.

10. Dasdana waterfall

We close this overview of waterfalls around Lombardy with this circular excursion in Val Trompia, in the province of Brescia. The route goes up the Val Dasdana, near the Maniva pass and the ski lifts, where the stream of the same name flows to generate two spectacular waterfalls that we will not fail to admire from the path. The route finally culminates at Dasdana lake, from where you will return to the Bonardi refuge and the car park.

One more alternative

If the environment of streams and waterfalls fascinates you and you want to experience it even more directly, then our Canyoning and River Trekking activities are suitable for you.
