Positioned vertically above Devil’s Lake, Monte Aga is a panoramic peak located on the ridge that separates Val Brembana from Valtellina. From its summit, you can enjoy a wide panorama that spans from the Orobie, the Prealps, the Rhaetian Alps, and on clear days, even the Western Alps. <\/p>\n\n

You can reach the summit of Monte Aga from both Valtellina and Val Brembana. In this article, we describe the latter option. <\/p>\n\n

The itinerary starts from Carona, where we park our car. We continue on foot along the asphalt road, following the signs for the Longo and Calvi refuge, which will soon lead us to the characteristic village of Pagliari. Continuing along the dirt path, we follow the signs for the Longo refuge. The road climbs without any particular difficulties, with a sustained but never excessive slope, until we reach the refuge itself. <\/p>\n\n

From here, we then follow the signs for Devil’s Lake, located just above the refuge. Once we reach the shores of the lake, the imposing shape of Monte Aga immediately catches our eye, reflecting in the waters of the lake itself. We continue to the left, along the shore of the lake, following the signs for the Cigola pass. <\/p>\n\n

At the pass, we turn right, approaching the last section of the climb. The trail starts along a wide scree with evident markings. Given the predominantly north-facing exposure, it is easy to find snow on this section, even in the late season, and crampons could be useful. Climbing up the scree, we finally reach the sharp ridge and shortly the summit, where a statue of the Madonna is placed. <\/p>\n\n

From the summit of Monte Aga, you can enjoy a wide panorama, with views of the Prealps, the Orobie, the Rhaetian Alps, as well as Devil’s Lake. <\/p>\n\n

The return takes place along the same itinerary as the ascent. For the more experienced hikers, it is possible to descend the southwest ridge, with a slightly exposed and vertical trail. <\/p>\n\n

This hike requires a decent level of fitness and some hiking experience to comfortably traverse the last section of the path. <\/p>\n\n
