In this blog post, we describe an easy trip to the Riserva Naturale delle Marmitte dei Giganti, just outside the town of Chiavenna (SO). It is an easy hike through woods and hills, where the main feature to visit are potholes or “Marmitte dei Giganti,” deep holes in the rock carved by ice and water over the millennia. <\/p>\n\n

We reach the town of Chiavenna and park the car near the train station. From there, we walk towards the cemetery, following it until we find a marked trail that leads into the woods. It is a mule track that will allow us to make a loop hike. During the hike, we will have the opportunity to see the giant pots, but also the Ollare stone quarries, used for the production of pots. In the park, we will also have the opportunity to see ancient rock carvings, where drawings and symbols are combined with geometries and abstract figures, dates and signs.<\/p>\n\n

Finally, before returning to the village, you will have the chance to admire the town of Chiavenna and its valley from a beautiful viewpoint.<\/p>\n\n

If you still have free time after the visit, do not miss the opportunity to visit the town of Chiavenna or the beautiful Acqua Fraggia waterfalls<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

This hike is not difficult and is suitable for both adults and children with a minimum of training. Always plan your hikes carefully, choosing the appropriate equipment and materials and checking the itinerary before you go.<\/em><\/p>\n\n
